summer memories

Part 2 of our Summer Memories Series is brought to us by

Dani Walker of Suburbia Interrupted.

Summertime was always a big deal growing up. Extravagant trips were taken. Neighborhood parties were had. I wanted to pick one memory to share but the reality is, I couldn’t decide which one.

Each time I settled on one trip or memory or happening, another one popped into my head. So, instead of focusing on one summer memory, I decided to mash up memories from summers past and pay homage to them all…

…catching crabs and mussels during low tide in the backyard of our family’s summer house in Maine…lemonade stands…visiting Washington DC for the first time…My love of government was born…Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Cody…most beautiful part of our country…weeks at the working dude ranch we visited over the years outside Cody, Wyoming…summer romances with cowboys from the dude ranch…CDK Newspaper me and two neighborhood girls published every summer…London… fireflies…hours and hours playing in the pool…sunburns…days at the beach…wave runners…Disney World…Marco Island…Key West…late nights…slumber parties… night swimming…ice cream…mosquitoes…homemade peanut butter cups…my grandparents garden…snakes…swing sets…meeting new neighbors…Amish Country… Fenway Park…whale watching…block parties…Fourth of July…sleepovers at grandma’s…visiting cousins…airplane trips…flip flops…tank tops…sandals…catching minnows…hiking in mountains…summer movies…fudge…swimming lessons…tennis camp…writing love letters to neighborhood boys…cookouts…watermelon…Snoopy slushy maker…Jell-O Pudding Pops…bike riding…tents in the woods…thunderstorms…learning to drive…back surgery…going off to college…eight months pregnant in the height of a Florida summer…summer camps…baseball camps… Salt Lake City…Daytona Beach…fireworks…sparklers…hamburgers…hot dogs…reggae music…tan lines…snorkeling…scuba diving…naps in the hammock…breaking up fights between my kids…road trips…

Summertime brings back a lot of great memories. Lots of fun was had. Lots of laughs were shared. Summer was a time of learning new things and experiencing new experiences; falling in love and broken hearts.

Most of all, summertime has been and will always be full of love, laughs, lemonade stands, and memories. Without the memories, there would be no summer. And without summer, there wouldn’t be relaxing days spent without a to do list, sitting around the porch, watching the lobster boats pull back into the harbor after a long day of fishing off the coast of Maine.

Have a great summer. Make memories, soak up the sun and put the grill to good use.
