Our dog is our best friend and he loves Nudges® Grillers or Sizzlers

This is the story of how our little dog almost lost his life and 10 reasons why dogs make great pets.  This shop has been compensated by #CollectiveBias, Inc. and its advertiser Nudges® Grillers or Sizzlers.  All opinions are mine and Tukker’s.  #NudgeThemBack

Our dog Tukker is amazing and joined our family after being rescued from a shelter.  He is a true joy and because we love him unconditionally, we feed him the best treats we can find. Nudges® Grillers or Sizzlers are wholesome real food that he loves.

10 Reasons why Schnauzers make great pets.

  • Loyal: Like waits outside the shower curtain loyal.
  • Smart: Tricks are learned on the second try.
  • Beards: Come on…beards are so in right now!
  • Hypoallergenic: Their fur rarely causes allergies and doesn’t shed.
  • Small: Mini schnauzers only grow to about 18 pounds and 14” tall.
  • Attitude: They are goofy, carefree and happy to entertain.
  • Long Life: They live for 12-14 years.
  • Heritage: Who doesn’t love Germany?
  • Pest Control: I hope you’re not overrun with mice but if you are, they’re your dog.
  • Because they are just so darn cute.

Our Mini Schnauzer Tukker was acting unusually tired and quiet so I knew something was up. I had no idea what was wrong and decided to investigate.  I laid him on his back and couldn’t believe my eyes. My poor dog’s body was covered in black and blue bruises.  I knew right away that something was terribly wrong and we ran to the veterinarian’s office.

As soon as our vet saw him, he was placed in critical care at the pet hospital.  Tukker was in dire need of emergency attention due to his blood not clotting properly.  After what seemed like an eternity, we were checked in and told the news.  Tukker’s immune system was attacking his blood supply and it was a grave situation.  They didn’t expect him to live overnight.

Now imagine going from what seemed to be a perfectly happy healthy dog the day before to being told that your family pet of 10 years was dying. The dog that goes everywhere with you, that uses your lap as his personal space, that brought joy to your life after the passing of your 18 year old dog; may die.  Months later, it still feels surreal and I recall the moment we left the hospital without him as one of the worst of my life.

Harder still is when you get home, barely processing the situation and you have to put on the “happy face” for your daughter.  Even though she’s a young adult that has experienced loss before, I didn’t want to put the actual words out into the universe in case they came true.  So Just Plane Dad and I explained as best we could, leaving out the hardest fact; Tukker was not going to be back.

The emergency vet’s last words to us before leaving that first day were “I’ll call you tonight if anything happens”.  We braced ourselves for that 4am call-thank God it never came.  Tukker lived through that first night and surprised us all by overcoming huge odds to get back to his family.  True to his sweet nature, he would not have disappointed us by dying unexpectedly after being rescued.

The path to wellness is long but we are almost there.  Testing and medicine are subsiding, quarantine rules are over and Tukker is getting back to his loving self.  Everywhere we are, he is.  What has changed is that we now have a glimpse of life “without him” and that’s sparked an unconditional new love for our old dog (he’s going to be 11 soon).

Now that he’s feeling better, life can get back to normal.  No more special prescription diets and treat withholding.  We can feed him just like we feed our family, choosing all natural products without preservatives. Just in time for summer meals out in the backyard!

He’s loved Nudges® Dog Treats for some time (check out the first time he tried them) so we knew he’d be thrilled with the NEW Nudges Grillers or Sizzlers varieties.  Really, what man doesn’t like grilled food? Nudges® Grillers come in Chicken or Steak flavor and Nudges® Sizzlers come in Chicken Bacon or Cheese flavor in either 3oz or 18oz bags.

We’ve also resumed doing all the things that make his little body and mind happy too.  Wellbeing for your dog is similar to what we need as their owners:

Physical needs: We don’t eat junk and neither does Tukker.  Nudges® treats are made with real meat as their #1 ingredient, it looks and smells like real food and there are NO artificial flavors or fillers.

Emotional needs: We stick to the same dinner routine so that Tukker knows what to expect and doesn’t become fearful or upset that he missed something. We’re quick to praise and hug him (something we couldn’t do while he was ill because he was so fragile).

Mental needs:  Tukker is an “only child” so it’s important to spend time playing each day to avoid boredom. Wouldn’t you go a little stir crazy if left alone?

Social needs: Tukker’s very popular and as the “old man on the block”; it’s his job to teach the “young-ins” how to behave. He had to be separated from other animals while sick due to germs so he’s thrilled to meet up with his friends again.

If you have a dog that deserves to be rewarded with a treat you can trust, show your best friend love and visit Nudges® on their Nudge Them Back website or on the Nudges® Dog Treats Facebook page.  We buy ours at Walmart in the dog treats aisle.  In our local store, we go in the front doors, take a right at the main aisle and they’re down on the right.  While you’re there, pick up the New value size (36oz) Nudges® Jerky Cuts. Your dog will love them!

Throughout his ordeal, the veterinarians had to nudge Tukker’s progress along and thankfully today he can #nudgethemback.  We can never repay our gratitude.  Our vet calls Tukker her “special case” and we couldn’t agree more!

Tukker’s favorite are the Grillers Steak; which one will your dog love the most?
