The Night before the night before Christmas

The Night Before The Night Before Christmas by Jay Dee is an absolutely delightful book that I was privileged to read and review for the author.  I received a copy of the book and one to giveaway, so my lucky readers get a chance to win this special book too.

The book centers around Elfie, the cutest little elf on the planet (according to me) who unfortunately happens to be a perfectionist.  Can’t we all relate?  As a helicopter parent, I immediately related to this little guy.  We always want to do our absolute best and nothing less than perfect will do.  We constantly add things to our to-do list.  Not a big deal, except for Elfie, is definitely on a deadline.  Who wants to ruin Christmas?

Elfies Christmas

Unfortunately, our “focus” has caused us stress and strife on more than one occasion and Elfie finds himself in the same predicament with the Lead Elf.  No matter how much he prods Elfie along…Elfie is falling behind on toy making.

Uh oh, what’s that?  Did I just hear Santa arrive?  Oh no, what will happen when Santa finds out that Elfie only finished 1 toy train for only 1 baby boy?

Don’t worry, I won’t ruin the surprise, but let’s just say that Elfie’s gift is going to an extremely important baby.

Outcome: Loved it!

I absolutely loved this book and the illustrations by Darren Geers are beautiful.  The book is colorful enough to grasp your child’s attention, yet uses the deeper “non-primary” reds and greens of an Olde World coloring scheme.  There are very few characters in the book so you can really focus on the expressions of the elves.  My personal fave-Elfie sticking his little tongue out while working!

The story is a mere 26 or so pages long so perfect for a quick bedtime story or while waiting in line at the grocery store.  It will be enjoyed by kids of all ages and parents, will especially love the “surprise” at the end as it will open up a new conversation worth having…during the holiday season.

You can purchase this beautifully written and illustrated book on the author Jay Dee’s Amazon page or win a signed copy author jay deebelow.  Since this book is destined to shake up our traditional thoughts of a Christmas book, and no doubt will become a classic…I’m thrilled that Jay offered my lucky readers the first chance!
