Traveled Miami with #MC and now #LoveThisCity like no other

I am a member of the Collective Bias Social Fabric community.  I have been compensated to share my experience with you by Collective Bias and their client, MasterCard.  I am honored to work with both of them.

Amo Miami!  Who wouldn’t?  It’s the “Magic City” of love and Latin flair.  We travel there, as it’s just a short jaunt from our home city of Tampa, quite often.  We #LoveThisCity and its ambiance and family friendly atmosphere rival those of other larger cities.  It’s fast becoming one of our favorite places and you can literally find something to do 24/7!

My father-in-law happened to be visiting this weekend so we packed up the kids and headed on down to the city by the shore.  Miami sits right on the Atlantic coast and we wanted to get the best view so we stayed at an oceanfront hotel.  It was incredible and offered a priceless view of the ocean.   At night, you can see the entire city lit up with beautiful colors…it’s such a memorable moment.

Everything is so delicious and the fare is light and fresh so you often forget how much you are chowing down on; eating in Miami can be dangerous!   We love jumping from food truck to food truck, tasting the variety of ethnic flavors that this city has to offer.  Just meandering on the streets leads you to the next exciting food surprise.  I can’t wait for the SoBe Wine and Food Festival next year.

Here’s a recipe to make homemade tortilla shells:

2 cups flour, ½ teaspoon salt, ¾ cup water, 3 tablespoons olive oil

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.  Drop on a floured surface and knead 10 times.  Add flour and water as needed to smooth the dough.  Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.  Divide dough into 8 portions and roll each piece into a circle.  Coat a nonstick pan with cooking spray or oil and cook tortillas over medium heat for 1 minute or until lightly browned.

The people of Miami are so warm and friendly.  There is just something about living in the sun on the beach that keeps them happier. It never seems to matter that in many spots we have a language barrier; most of them prefer to speak Spanish.  I studied a little in school but certainly don’t remember enough to carry on a conversation.  Thankfully, a smile always works.  It’s just another reason to #LoveThisCity and its natives.  And I’m sure that Just Plane Dad noticed that every woman in town is beautiful!

We were lucky to have planned our trip during Miami’s WoodyStock. The concert brings together reggae musicians and proceeds go to help people with spinal cord injuries.  We try to show Beloved the inherent good in all people and this event drilled that fact home.  It’s amazing to spend a few hours enjoying yourself but even more special knowing that you may have brought about change for families dealing with a devastating tragedy.  The music is quite opposite to the Latin sounds you hear booming from the storefronts.

We also saw a place to ride in a real helicopter.  As a helicopter mom, I thought that would make a great photo; but I don’t know if I’d have been brave enough to try it.  I can just imagine how beautiful the ocean looks flying above it.

Anytime you mention visiting Miami, people will be sure to tell you to stop at Calle Ocho.  So we had to check it out.  Calle Ocho (8th street) is lined with cigar aficionado’s rolling their own cigars.  It’s easy to forget the skill involved with this art until you watch the men doing it.  And it seems as if this part of the state forgot that we’re smoke-free.  Check out the rest of this amazing place.

Fans #LoveThisCity for all of the sports.  You can’t help but feel patriotic when at baseball’s Marlin Stadium.  Peanuts, popcorn and Cracker Jack.  The locals have embraced their love of the ocean by naming their teams after sea creatures (but) that doesn’t seem to mesh with their booming deep sea fishing industry.  Everyone owns a boat and Miami offers the most amazing cruises from their port.  If you haven’t taken a cruise before, you are missing out.  I could live on a ship.

The city is alive with the hustle and bustle of residents, tourists and animals.  One of our favorite reasons for visiting Miami is that it’s so pet friendly.  Stores, beaches and hotels welcome dogs just as much as they do people.  The city even offers bike rentals equipped with baskets to carry your pooch!

The kids were anxious to set off on their own adventure and another reason to #LoveThisCity is that it offers great hangouts for teens. The kids spent a few hours trolling the shops at Dolphin Mall.  They have an arcade, bowling alley and theater.  The atmosphere is so welcoming that we didn’t have any reservations about letting them loose.  Well, Just Plane Dad’s wallet had a few issues with it…tee hee.

Traveling Miami is memorable and it’s become a favorite place for many families with children.  It feels like you’ve gone to some exotic land but you haven’t left the good ‘ole USA.  We love this city and can’t wait to return!
