Disney Memories! How I cherish the fun!

24 Jan

One of my fondest memories of Beloved and Just Plane Dad is of a trip to Hollywood Studios in Orlando.  Beloved was about six at the time and like most kids that age, obsessed with climbing in and out of everything she came across.  Trees, rocks, tables, dogs, all fair game.  We found a mecca for kids like her. It’s a HUGE playground, if you’re a Disney buff, it’s the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie set adventure.  Isn’t Disney fun?

Disney Fun

It’s sort of nestled in the back of the park and sits amongst the dining row, so naturally after you’ve stuffed your kids full of hot dogs, you can let them loose in this play place, set up to look like you’re walking through backyard grass.  My personal favorite is the giant Play-Doh container…if only they could add the smell; I’d sit there all day.

Beloved was timid when entering any structure that she couldn’t fully grasp where the ending was, but once she decided it was safe, away she went.  To get her mind around whether or not something was safe, she’d send Just Plane Dad in for a closer look.

If he got out alive, she figured she was good to go.  There is just something so special about watching your only child take the hand of her Daddy and find the strength to try something scary for the first time.  There are bugs, slides, rocks, and trucks to climb on and crawl through.  She loved every single part of it.  And, truth be told, so did Just Plane Dad.

Beloved had totally gotten the hang of each area and no longer needed Just Plane Dad’s helping hand, he hadn’t noticed though.  After about the fifth trip through the slide, Beloved let Just Plane Dad know that he could stay with Mom.  He was banished to the sidelines as she showed us how proud she was going through each obstacle herself.  That’s when I noticed it.

It had come on so slowly.  Every time she exited a structure, she’d stop, look for us, and put her hands up in the air with a big cheesy grin as if to say “ta-da”.  It was so ingrained in her psyche, that even if she couldn’t visually see us [although we saw her], she would do the entire routine anyway.

My daughter has had every moment of her life videotaped or photographed and was now a bona fide media diva.  I guess she figured that we were somewhere lurking with a camera and she was right.  I fully accept all responsibility for creating this little photo hog…and oh, how cute she was…is.

I have so many memories churning in my head of the places that we’ve visited with our girl and this seemingly innocuous visit to a play yard reigns up there.  She was so full of joy at running wild amongst her new friends; let me never forget this day.
